Big Ditch Brewing adds line of canned beer

Big Ditch Brewing Company revealed a major expansion to its taproom and brewery Thursday.  The brewery showed off a larger taproom with a new, dedicated service bar.  Big Ditch founders led a tour of the facility, which includes new equipment that triples their brewing capacity.

The expanded brewing capability allows Big Ditch to start producing a canned beer line.  This is the first packaged beer offered by the brewery since it was founded in 2013.

Big Ditch will be selling its top three beers in cans starting Thursday.  They are the Hayburner American IPA, Low Bridge Golden Ale and Excavator Rye Brown Ale.  President Matt Kahn said most local supermarkets and stores that will carry the beer should have it on shelves by Friday afternoon.

Kahn has seen craft brewing explode in Buffalo and says it's a good thing for the area.

"When we started talking about this five years ago, there were only maybe three breweries in the area," he said.  "Now, there's something like 20.  It's grown a lot over the last five years.  I think it's a good thing.  Buffalo is still learning about beer.  We're a great beery city."

This all comes during Buffalo Beer Week, a celebration of craft brewing in Western New York.  The events run through Sunday, October 2nd.  You can see a schedule of events here.
