Niagara Falls Police are investigating a homicide after a 29-year-old woman's body was found in an alley between the 2200 blocks of Grand and Independence Avenue.

Police have identified the woman as Laura Burkett, of Cheektowaga.

Police and AMR Ambulance personnel arrived on the scene at around 11 p.m. Sunday night.

Attempts to revive Burkett were unsuccessful.

Authorities were able to identify Burkett by using a tattoo located on the woman's wrist.

An autopsy was performed this morning. Detectives are awaiting results.
