A bridge on Route 20 in Westfield will now be named in honor of Sergeant Kevin White, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2011.
White, a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient, was killed in Afghanistan when his vehicle was hit by an I.E.D.
The idea for the bridge was proposed in 2015. After White's family granted permission, legislation was introduced to memorialize the bridge.
On September 29th, 2016, the law was signed by Governor Cuomo.
Sergeant Kevin White was a graduate of Westfield Academy and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was later deployed to Iraq in 2008 and was named Lead Driver in over 200 patrols in a M.R.A.P. vehicle.
Those who served with Sergeant White say he was a proven warrior and led by example.
