Buffalo Fire battled a fully-engulfed blaze at a junkyard Sunday, Max Brock Recycle on Metcalfe in Buffalo.
Around 9 p.m. Buffalo Fire Chief Peter Kertzie told 7 Eyewitness News the fire "is just about under control."
The area on fire contained a wide-range of material from pellets to tractor-trailer parts. Also burning was fiber glass and a variety of plastic material.
Adjacent to the burning junkyard is a chemical warehouse, which prompted the Buffalo Fire Department to bring in the Hazards Material team. It was later determined that those chemicals were not at risk for accelerating the fire.
While the fire was burning, a thick layer of black smoke could be seen from I-190.
It took hours to get the fire under control.
