Meet Scout, the Buffalo Zoo's first red panda in eight years!
One-year-old Scout came to the Zoo in November from the Memphis Zoo as part of a Species Survival Plan.
"By bringing Scout here, we not only get to enjoy this beautiful species, we also have the opportunity to educate the public about the red panda and the dangers these animals face in the wild," said President and CEO Donna Fernandes.
The red panda is not related to the giant panda, but does eat bamboo and is native to the high forests of Asia.
Red pandas are classified as endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. There may be less than 2,500 adult red pandas in the wild today, with main threats to their survival being habitat loss, human interference and poaching.
