The General Motors Tonawanda Engine Plant is revving up its engines. That's because the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette engine, which is built at the local plant, is taking top honors.
Wardsauto ranks it in the 10 best engines for the second year in a row. GM says the small block engine propels the Corvette Stingray from zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. More than 1,700 people work at the Powertrain plant.
M&T Bank is now the 17th-largest bank in the United States, climbing three spots over a three-month period on a list from SNL Financial. It is based on the total number of assets at the end of the third quarter.

When it comes to charitable giving in WNY, six charitable gifts top $1 million for fiscal 2014, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy. The largest: Tom Golisano's foundation gave $3.5 million to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. It's the largest gift in the hospital's history.
