It has become quite the media event. It''s not just reporters, but also spectators that gather at Bob Will's house each year on February 2nd to celebrate Groundhog Day with Western New York's most popular prognosticator, Dunkirk Dave.
Dave's handler Bob Will is a wildlife rehabilitator and over the years has helped over a thousand injured, sick or orphaned Groundhogs. He knows a lot about them, like the fact that they do not make good pets saying "you never know what you're going to get in a groundhog, it's like a box of chocolates. We don't recommend them as pets. They can give you a nasty bite."
Bob currently has about forty groundhogs, but today all eyes were on Dunkirk Dave. Just about 7:30 am Bob set Dave on the ground and the Groundhog made a dash for the warmth of the house. Bob declared that it meant "six more weeks of Winter."
