Come aboard the U.S.S. Little Rock

Posted

When the U.S.S. Little Rock is commissioned at Canalside on Saturday, December 16, it will be the first time in Navy history that a ship is commissioned next to its namesake.

We took a tour of the Navy's newest Littoral Combat Ship, or LCS 9, which is more spacious than its description might suggest.

Littoral Combat Ships are smaller and lighter, and their hulls sit only 13 feet underwater. That allows them to get closer to land and access ports other ships may not be able to approach.

The ship's commanding officer says the new addition to the fleet will be a welcome sight around the world.
