22-year-old Bradley Augustin was celebrating his birthday with friends last night, when New York State Police say, he jumped into Indian Falls in the Town of Pembroke and drowned.

Police say, Augustin was attempting to swim to the edge, when he submerged and never resurfaced. Friends and employees of the Indian Falls Log Cabin Restaurant attempted to administer CPR, but Augustin never responded.

"There is a danger to this and you have to accept the responsibility that, this could be a dangerous thing that I do, and if it looks like it could be too dangerous or something that you don't feel comfortable doing, maybe it's not worth doing," Trooper James O'Callaghan said.

Long-time residents, like Philip Conti, say with temperatures on the rise the falls are a popular hangout for people looking to cool off and that can be dangerous - no matter the time of day.

"As kids, they don't care. They're not thinking of the consequences that could happen and this is a result of poor judgment, " Conti expressed.

But for Augustin's family, friends and teammates, today is a sad day, as they continue to mourn the death of their loved one.

Teammates on Augustin's semi-pro football team, Buffalo Lightning, set up a "Go Fund Me" account in his honor and are asking for donations to assist with funeral costs.
