Construction is beginning on the new Whole Foods Market in Amherst.  WS Development announced Friday the first phase of the plan at the Northtown plaza is underway.

The 50,000 square foot grocery store will be the first Whole Foods to open in Western New York.  The development company bought the 400,000 square foot plaza in spring of 2015.  WS Development says the vision for the area includes a mix of regional and national retailers, as well as restaurants.

“The new Whole Foods Market is a fantastic first step toward returning Northtown to its position as one of the most significant commercial destinations in the Buffalo region” said Brian Sciera, Vice President, WS Development.

Picone Construction will be the general contractor for the building construction.  The store is slated to open sometime in 2017.
