BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — Health officials are reporting an explosion of new COVID-19 cases nationwide, and Western New York is not immune.
The numbers are extremely alarming, with the holiday season right around the corner.
Health officials report more than 126,000 new cases across the country, and more than 1,000 deaths from COVID-19 on Saturday.
Here in New York, 18 people died, including four in Erie County and one in Allegany County.
Western New York's positivity rate is back up at 4.8%, but the situation is much worse in Erie County at 6.3%.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says there were 259 new cases confirmed out of 4,128 diagnostic tests on Saturday.
