ECMC to provide hazard pay to nurses directly working with COVID-19 patients

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Nurses and other medical providers working with COVID-19 patients will receive hazard pay, a spokesperson from Erie County Medical Center confirmed this information that was first published in the Buffalo News.

Nurses and other staff who work directly with COVID-19 patients will receive an extra $10 an hour. Staff who work with COVID-19 patients on occasion, will receive an extra $6 and hour.

Friday, The Erie County Medical Center began furloughs and other cuts as it looks to trim $20 million in annual costs to stay afloat.

The cost cutting measures, half of which will be personnel, were explained to staff in a video message Friday by President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Quatroche, Jr.
