Erie County hits milestone: fewer than 30 COVID-19 hospitalizations, lowest since pandemic began

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Erie County has reached a milestone it hasn't seen since before the COVID-19 pandemic began. For the first time, there are fewer than 30 COVID-19 patients in Erie County hospitals.

On July 26, state data showed 29 patients hospitalized in Erie County. In the Western New York region, which includes Erie, Niagara Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany County, there was only one other patient hospitalized.

Of the 29 patients in Erie County, eight are in ICUs and four are on airway assists. The county has not reported a COVID-19 death since July 24.
