BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Governor Andrew Cuomo says the state will distribute over 7-million additional cloth masks to vulnerable New Yorkers and frontline workers across the state.
Open Buffalo held a free mask giveaway Saturday in the Queen City. It was held at the Imperial Market at the corner of Bailey and Kensington. The masks were available to anyone who stopped by the pick-up site.
“We're encouraging people to stay home. We know a lot of people can’t. We have essential workers out here that have to leave the house. We have other situations, doctors appointments. So, we just wanted to make sure that people had access to a clean re-usable face mask,” said Franchelle Parker, the executive director of Open Buffalo.
This was one of two mask giveaways in the 14215 zip code.
That area of Buffalo's far East Side, along with parts of Cheektowaga have some of the highest rates of COVID-19 infections in Erie County.
