BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Tops Markets is rolling out exclusive shopping hours for seniors during the coronavirus outbreak.

Starting tomorrow and effective every Tuesday and Thursday, all Tops locations will open their doors to people 60 years of age and older from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

The move is in response to requests from customers, the company said.

The local supermarket chain is asking others to respect this time and allow senior citizens - who are at greater risk for serious illness if they contract COVID-19 - to shop without having to share the store with younger people. No one will be asked for identification before entering the store.

Tops implemented new hours this week of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to allow time to restock shelves in order to keep up with demand.

Dollar General and Target recently rolled out similar senior-only shopping hours to accommodate the needs of older shoppers during the pandemic.
