This week's weather is mild for December, but not exactly beach weather. That won't stop nearly 1,200 Western New Yorkers from taking a dip in Lake Erie this weekend.

Special Olympics New York will hold its 8th annual Polar Plunge on Saturday, at 2:00 p.m., at Woodlawn Beach. It's all part of an effort to fund nearly 65,000 athletes in the Special Olympics in NYS. Organizers hope to raise more than $150,000.

Over the past five years, more than $600,000 has been raised. It costs about $500 for one athlete to take part in the Special Olympics.

Crews were at Woodlawn Beach Friday to prepare for Saturday's Polar Plunge.
