Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared a state of emergency in order to free up resources and help repair the communities hit by flooding along the Lake Ontario's southern shore.

Governor Cuomo said a state response team has been created, during a news conference on Tuesday. It consists of the National Guard, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Environmental Conservation, State Police and city and county agencies.

The Governor has directed that 365,000 sandbags be deployed to the region and are ready for placement in lower elevation areas. The deployments include 60,000 for Niagara County and 30,000 for Orleans County.
