With Fourth Of July around the corner, Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced the suspension of all non-essential lane closures on road and bridges across New York State.

Construction on bridges and lane closures were suspended at 6 a.m. Friday in an attempt to help ease travel this holiday weekend. However, construction may take place behind concrete barriers or for emergency repairs.

AAA is expecting a 1.2 percent increase in highway travel thanks to lower gas prices this Fourth of July Weekend. More than 43 million people traveling at least 50 miles away from their home will be out on the roads, making it one of the busiest traveling weekends on record.

Construction on roads and highways will resume Tuesday.
