Department of Transportation hiring ahead of icy and snowy WNY winter

Posted

Nearly 500 jobs across New York State are available ahead of the winter season.

The New York State Department of Transportation announced both permanent and seasonal positions. Staff will be hired and trained immediately so crews can be ready to clear the roads as soon as first snowfall.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old, pass a physical and a drug test, have a valid and clean Class A or B commercial drivers license and be certified to operate DOT heavy dump trucks within two weeks of their start date.

Everyone will be trained and evaluated on different equipment. You'll have to be able to do physical labor as well as work with backhoes, front end loaders, stump grinders and other heavy equipment.

59 positions are available in Western New York and 34 in the Western Southern Tier. Maintenance workers will primarily assist in snow and ice removal, but can also perform general repairs. Shifts will vary depending on the weather.
