Parole officer shoots suspect in leg

We are working to learn more about a shooting on Buffalo's East Side that happened last night.

According to a Buffalo Police source, a parole officer shot a suspect in the leg.  This happened around 9:20 p.m. on the 300 block of Northumberland Avenue.

The suspect is in custody, there's no word on their condition. It's believed police caught up with the suspect near Stevenson Street and North Legion Drive.

Thomas Mailey, a Department of Corrections and Community spokesperson, released this statement in response:  

"Last night, two Department of Corrections and Community Supervision parole officers were conducting a routine residence visit of a person under community supervision.  During their approach to the residence, an incident occurred resulting in the discharge of a parole officer's weapon.  The incident is under active investigation by the Department's Office of Special Investigation and the Buffalo Police Department.  The Department cannot comment further at this time."
