The WNY Child Care Resource Networkis on a quest to lighten the load for parents strapped for cash especially this time of year. It's collecting unopened diapers at Dash’s Market's on Colvin Boulevard and Klein Road.
“It can be embarrassing, when as a family, you can't make the basic needs. We thought this was a place we could step in and provide support,” said CEO Amanda Kelkenberg. “Every dollar raised goes to purchasing diapers for families in need,” she added.
The nonprofit helps families and childcare professionals in Erie County.
On average, it said diapers cost $90 a month per child.
Kelkenberg said the diapers will eventually be distributed to some 500 day care centers and in-home providers across the community. “We'll ask our child care providers to put in an application. But, it's for the ones that really need our support the most.”
They collected 33,000 diapers last year. They're hoping to exceed that this time around.
The boxes will be at Dash's on Colvin Blvd. and Klein Road until Friday.
