Orchard Park Police responded to a report of an accident and a driver "knocked out behind the wheel" on Baker Road around 8 p.m. Saturday night.
When officers arrived, they say the driver, Mark O'Connor, 39, was unconscious behind the wheel and they immediately began administering first-aid care.
According to witnesses at the scene, the car was seen speeding southbound on Baker Road and running other cars off the road. Police say the car sideswiped a mailbox, smashed a guardrail and reentered the roadway for a short distance before hitting a telephone pole. Officers also report the car driving over through a resident's front lawn, crashing into a large boulder and smashing head-on into a tree.
Once O'Connor regained consciousness, police say he showed signs of drug and alcohol impairment.
O'Connor was charged with operating under the influence of drugs and alcohol, reckless driving and other traffic violations.
He was taken to Mercy hospital.
O'Connor was arrested last month, also for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, after he was involved in another car accident on Milestrip Road.
