A 41-year-old woman has died after a head-on crash with another vehicle in Niagara County.
The sheriff’s office tells 7 Eyewitness News that Valerie Caprio of Sanborn crossed the yellow line on Saunders Settlement Road (Rt. 31), just west of Baer Road, and crashed head-on into another vehicle. The roadway was closed until around 5 p.m. on Wednesday as the scene was examined.
Investigators say Caprio was involved in a hit-and-run just minutes before on the same stretch of roadway. In that incident, deputies say Caprio hit a road sign, causing an overhead light to malfunction.
Caprio was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was flown to ECMC by Mercy Flight.
Deputies are still investigating what led Caprio to cross the yellow line.
The identity of the other driver was not released.
