A beloved horse who was a fixture at Buffalo Bills home games and served with the Reserve Mounted Unit in Erie County has passed away.

Erie County Sheriffs are mourning the loss of 35-year-old Jake. Jake and his partner Deputy Wayne Wolf served on the Mounted Unit for almost 21-years.

“Jake and Wayne were true ambassadors for the Sheriff’s Office, and Jake was still active well into his thirties," Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard said in a statement.

“Being a horse owner and lover, I understand the special bond between Wayne and Jake that has developed,” Sheriff Howard added.  “I know that Wayne will miss Jake as well as the entire Sheriff’s Office and anyone who met these two.”

Deputies say Jake passed away in his stall Saturday in Marilla.
