On the same day Sabres forward Evander Kane appeared in court facing harassment and trespassing charges, his attorney says he's being sued over an alleged incident that happened in December.
Paul Cambria says a civil suit has been filed against Kane, and that his client intends to counter sue.
7 Eyewitness News has obtained court documents detailing the civil suit. In the documents, a woman alleges she met Kane at Encore Bar downtown on December 27, 2015. The documents state Kane invited her back to his room at the Buffalo Marriott under the pretext that she would be attending a party.
In the documents, the woman says she was in Kane's room when he inflicted violent and physical battery on her, causing her to suffer bodily injuries including lacerations and extensive bleeding.
The documents also say the woman had to have muliple surgeries and blood transfusions and has been going through serious emotional trauma.
Cambria calls the claims "baseless" and "false."
7 Eyewitness News reported in March that charges would not be filed against Kane, after the Erie County District Attorney's Office investigated claims of alleged sexual assault.
