AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — They're a group of Sweet Home students fighting to save the planet one straw at a time. Now, they're mission is taking them straight to the Big Apple.

In December, student entrepreneurs from the High School were named as finalists in the Virtual Enterprises' National Business Plan Competition. The event is happening April 15-17 in New York City. According to the district, the teens beat thousands of other students vying for the same honor.

Through a class called, Virtual Enterprises, the students created That's the Last Straw, it's a simulated business that has been up and running since the start of the school year. This site aims to rid the world of plastic straws by inferring reusable ones for sale. The site also educates users about the impact plastic straws have on the environment.

If the students win the national competition, the class will receive $10,000 to put towards building their business or future simulated businesses.

Congratulations and good luck Sweet Home!
