BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — In the next few weeks, tests scores will be coming home in backpacks. If they are not fridge-worthy, when is it time to say okay maybe my child should have a tutor?
WNY tutor Greg Gaulocher tutors 6th graders all the way to seniors in college. He's been doing it for more than a decade and says it's important for parents to monitor their student's work.
"If the scores are 10-percentage points below what they normally are that's a good indication that it's time to get a tutor," Gaulocher said.
Gaulocher says if your child has a history of struggling with certain subjects and isn't doing that great to begin the school year, now is the time to think about getting one. Gaulocher also tutors students getting ready to head to college and taking the SAT and ACT.
"Tutoring can often push the student over the edge with standardize test scores," Gaulocher added.
When you're looking for a tutor, keep these questions in mind:
- rate
- one-on-one instruction?
- where does tutoring take place?
- tutor's experience and philosophy
