Festival of Lights ready to open at fairgrounds

The Festival of Lights at the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg is set to open on Friday.

The festival would have opened the weekend after Thanksgiving, but Snowvember caused damage to some of the property on the grounds. A week was needed to make repairs before the festival could open for its 10th anniversary.

Guests pay $20 per carload to drive through the light displays and attend the activities on 42nd Street. Fair rides like the One Buffalo Express train (supported by Pegula Sports and Entertainment), Snowzilla tubing adventure, photos inside a 16-foot snow globe, toasting up s’mores around a bonfire, an interactive scavenger hunt, and more are extra.

Visitors can of course meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Festival of Lights and take photos, as well as check if their names have made the “nice list.”

The Festival of Lights is open December 5-7, 12-14, 19-23, and 26-28. Gates are open from 5-9 p.m. and the grounds stay open until 10 p.m.

If you present a receipt from Tops Friendly Markets at the gate, you’ll receive $5 off the $20 admission price. Pre-sale tickets for $10 are also available at participating Tops and the Fairgrounds Event Center through December 6.
