The call for volunteer firefighters is going out around the state.
Right now, volunteer fire departments statewide are gearing up for the annual "RecruitNY" campaign. Niagara County announced its need for volunteers during a press conference Monday.
All 12 of the county's departments will open their doors to the public this weekend to recruit new volunteers and show the community what it takes to be a firefighter.
"When you're out and about and you see these firefighters, thank them for what they do," says Niagara County Emergency Services Director and Fire Coordinator Jonathan Schultz. "Especially this weekend, stop by their stations, meet these men and women, see what they do. As a matter of fact, you can probably provide a service to the community."
Nine of Niagara County's 12 departments will be open this Saturday, April 28; the remaining three will open Sunday, April 29.
