“I started going to him for pain management and in the beginning I thought the medication he was giving me was helping me,” Tammy Lechy told 7 Eyewitness News.
Lechy says she was living with severe hand and arm nerve pain in 2005, so she sought the medical care of Williamsville based physician Dr. Eugene Gosy.
“All I had to say was I hurt and he would write me a script,” Lechy said. “He was prescribing me soma, hydrocodone, oxycodone, he also gave me a packet of fentanyl patches to try.”
She says within three months of seeing Dr. Gosy she realized the pain wasn't any better but she found herself still making the drive from Salamanca up to Williamsville for more prescriptions.
“In the beginning he did try to help me but in the end he really only helped me become an addict.”
Lechy says when she learned that Dr. Gosy was facing more than 100 counts including conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, the news didn't come as a surprise.
“I'm sorry it’s Dr. Gosy getting charged but when you’re writing that many scripts like I saw, he is responsible. My life was ruined for a while.”
She says for three years she was in a dark place. Relationships were strained, bad choices were made but thankfully she beat addiction.
Lechy says she can now acknowledge her role in the situation but admits the actions of Dr. Gosy only made it that much easier to spiral out of control.
