The Buffalo Police Department is investigating a deadly overnight crash that ejected one person and entrapped three others.
Police say the driver, 17-year-old Zaire Abernathy, lost control of the car and hit a tree. He died at Erie County Medical Center a short time later.
Three 14-year-old girls were trapped in the car and rescued by firefighters. Two of them are in critical condition. The other is listed in stable condition.
Abernathy's father, Kirk Abernathy, spoke to 7 Eyewitness News.
"I'm truly sorry for the other parents of the other kids that were in the car with him. I'm truly sorry. I mean words can't even express it," said Abernathy.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday on Kensington Avenue near Castle Place.
Kensington Avenue was shut down by police for most of the overnight as members of the Accident Investigation Unit recreated the crash.
Police are trying to figure out if speed was a factor.
