Fun things to do in WNY for September 15-17

The calendar may say September, but summer warmth continues to radiate across the area. Looking to get out and enjoy the sunshine? Here are a few things happening in Western New York this weekend.

 

Friday, September 15th

Curtain Up!

It's the opening celebration of Buffalo's professional theatre season. This year, Curtain Up! is boasting 11 theatre productions, and the biggest and best street party in the city. Enjoy dinner, take in a show, and then enjoy the party! See the full schedule of shows here.

 

Saturday, September 16th

19th Annual Niagara Celtic Heritiage Festival & Highland Games

Join in on amazing Celtic food, music, attractions and fun in Krull Park in Oclott, New York both Saturday and Sunday. You can watch competitions like the Caber Pole Toss or Stone Throw, enjoy music at the Bonfire, or enjoy a cannon firing demonstration. Get a full weekend pass for $25, or pay $20 for Saturday or $12 for Sunday. Kids 12 and under get in free.

 

The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon

This isn't your typical 13-miler. Runners will enjoy live bands at every mile as they run along the beautiful Niagara River and through the historic villages of Lewiston and Youngstown. You can still get registered for $95, and supporting a good cause, Niagara Hospice.

 

Quaker Arts Festival

Did you know that the Quaker Arts festival was recently nationally recognized by Sunshine Artist Magazine as one of the best 200 Festivals in the country? Admission is free, and there will be food trucks available on the Orchard Park Middle School campus both Saturday and Sunday.

 

3rd Annual Americana Music Fest

Sportsmen’s Americana Music Foundation will hold its 3rd Annual Music Festival to promote Americana music and history and raise funds for the many programs we provide to foster music appreciation and learning in our local community. Tickets are $10, children's under 12 get in free.

 

Sunday, September 17th

Game Day Bar Crawl presented by Step Out Buffalo

Ah, Bills and Booze. What else could you want on a Sunday afternoon? Step out Buffalo's first Game Day Bar Crawl will feature bars and restaurants along Hertel Avenue. Several bars will be providing drink discounts as well. Tickets are $15 at the door. Drink responsibly, everyone!

 

Shea's 26th Annual Shea's 5k Run & Walk

This 5k will take you through Buffalo's Theatre District and ends with a fabulous post-race party right next to Shea's. Registration on Sunday is $18.
