High school sports increasing games per week to make up for bad weather

Due to poor weather conditions in late March and throughout April Section VI high school teams are given permission to practice or play games seven days a week.

The decision came as many games were canceled over the past month due to rough conditions.

"Last week we had three league games canceled and one non league game" Williamsville South Senior Matthew Jacobs said.

The increase in games and practices in a short time can be difficult on high school athletes but Williamsville South Athletic Director Adam Erickson said they will be monitoring the students closely to make sure the schedule is not too stressful.

"Our coaches are smart, they know if they are going to practice multiple days to maybe tone down the amount of time they (practice)" Erickson said.

There is desperation to make up rescheduled games due to the playoffs approaching in May. Each team will need to get every league game in before the third week of May, when playoff seeding begins.
