The highly anticipated 'Hofbrauhaus Buffalo' is switching gears. Owner Kevin Townsell tells 7 Eyewitness News that plans for the German beerhall are being moved from Canalside to 190 Scott Street. The hope is that the popular franchise will open to the public on January 1st of 2018.
The change in plans moves the project about a half mile to the east of Canalside to the former Bison plant. Townsell says he recently signed a lease and is planning a $5 million "adaptive reuse" of the building. He expects work to begin sometime in March.
Townsell says 'Hofbrauhaus Buffalo' will include a brewery that will create several beers using German recipes. He says visitors will enjoy an Oktoberfest theme in a communal setting with long tables, big steins of beer and big pretzels.
Hofbraushaus Buffalo expects to seat 500 people inside and another 200 outside.
