A party in Orchard Park overnight ended in shots fired and over 500 people fleeing the area into traffic.

Orchard Park Police says numerous calls of shots fired around 1:30 a.m., some saying a female was shot inside the Frank Young Sports Complex.

According to police, a 21-year-old New York City residence was inside and had been shot in the leg. She was taken to Erie County Medical Center by Orchard Park EMS.

Officers say people were fleeing the scene on foot and in cars when they arrived. Several cars crashed into each other during this process, according to police.

Officers had to deal with a hundreds of cars driving across lawns, through chain fencing and with no regard to vehicle and traffic laws.

Officers say there was also a disorderly crowd waiting waiting for rides. According to police, several people were standing on top of cars. It took over an hour for the area to be clear of bystanders, police say.

West Seneca and Hamburg Police Departments also responded to the large crowd.

The OPPD says it was made aware of the event only days prior. The department says the owner of the building was put on notice for advertising a party for 800+ people when the building could only safely hold 300.

Police say an investigation is taking place and charges against the property owner are pending. The owner will also face the State Liquor Authority - police say several bottles of liquor and alcoholic drinks were found in and around the building, and the property has no liquor license.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to call police at 662-6444.
