The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL) have announced the signing of former NFL first-round pick Johnny Manziel to a two-year contract.
The announcement was made via their social media accounts.
Manziel won the Heisman Trophy, the highest individual honor in college football, in 2012 while attending Texas A&M University. He was the first freshman to ever receive the award.
He was drafted 22nd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns but was released after just two seasons due to off-field issues and hasn't played professionally since his release.
Made the decision today to sign my contract with the CFL and further my football career after a long break. Very grateful for everyone that’s been supporting me along the way. I believe this is the best opportunity for me moving forward and I’m eager for what the future holds.
