The newest K9 with the Livingston County Sheriff's Office has a name. He's being called "Kane" in honor of former Sheriff Richard Kane.
The Sheriff's family was in attendance for the naming ceremony. Kane's handler, Deputy Matt Moran introduced them to the dog. Sheriff Kane's daughter Mary Jane spoke at the ceremony, and talked about her father's soft spot for dogs and his passion for police work.
Richard Kane was the sheriff from 1976 to 1989. He started his career as a part-time deputy in 1961.
Current Sheriff Thomas Dougherty said during the ceremony that K9 Kane exhibits a strong work ethic and loyalty to his partner and the Sheriff's Office, and that he has no doubt the K9 Officer will excel in all ares.
