BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez is expected in western New York this week for a meeting on workforce diversity.

Tuesday's meeting is being organized by two groups, Voice-Buffalo and the Niagara Organizing Alliance for Hope.  They plan to discuss innovative workforce training and placement programs aimed at lifting black, Hispanic, refugee and other groups of residents out of poverty.

The trip will be a homecoming for Perez, who was born and raised in Buffalo. The mayors of Buffalo and Niagara Falls also are expected to attend.

Voice-Buffalo is a faith-based coalition of 55 congregations, labor unions and other organizations.
