For Boy Scouts, earning a merit badge is a pretty big deal. Dan Dale of Lancaster Troop 468 has earned seventy-eight of them. That's an impressive accomplishment for the 14-year old who has only been a Boy Scout for three years. Dan is already Senior Patrol Leader and admits that his favorite scouting activity is earning merit badges, saying " it's fun showing them off and remembering what you did."

Dan is so passionate about working on merit badges, he is the first scout Statewide and possibly Nationwide to earn the newly issued "Exploration" badge. Dan says, as far as he knows "nobody else did it, I got it on the release date."

To earn it, Dan chose to explore The Buffalo Sewer Authority Waste Water Treatment Plant explaining "I wanted to see how the water was recycled, how they take care of it."

Dan says he hope to earn Eagle Scout within the next six months. The Boy Scout motto is "be prepared". With seventy-eight merit badges to his name and still counting, Dan Dale is one scout who will be prepared for almost anything.
