Time is running out to mail gifts in hopes of having them arrive by Christmas. One option that could get them there on time is priority express service.
Priority express guarantees overnight shipping but items have to be mailed by Wednesday, December 23rd. Having your items ship safely relies heavily on how you package it.
"You want to make sure whichever package you use is nice and sturdy," said Karen Mazurkiewicz the spokesperson for the Postal Service. "Make sure the items aren't shifting inside the box."
To do that you could wrap items in bubble wrap, which will stop them from shifting and protect them from the mailing process. Another tip when packing is to put a mailing address label inside the box as well.
"This way if something happens to the box we can still get it home," said Mazurkiewicz.
Postal clerks have been working around the clock this holiday season with ome working more than 14 hours a day.
The post office in Cheektowaga on Galleria Drive sorted and delivered more than 7,000 packages within the past two days.
"Nationwide we anticipate we're going to handle about 600 million packages," said Mazurkiewicz. "Now we're realizing that's a very conservative number."
Adding cards and letters to package shipment the postal service is on track to handle nearly 15 billion.
