Legendary WKBW news anchor Irv Weinstein is battling ALS.

After months of testing, the 86-year-old, who now lives in California was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS attacks nerve cells and muscles.

Weinstein who was welcomed into Western New York homes for 34 years started every newscast saying “topping tonight’s Eyewitness News.”

For most of his Channel 7 career, WKBW was rated the #1 newscast in Western New York.

Weinstein left Channel 7 more than a decade ago, but still has longtime fans here in Western New York.
