14 people involved in two separate Allegany County hot air balloon accidents Thursday

HUME, N.Y. (WKBW) — 14 people were involved in two separate hot air balloon accidents in the Allegany County Town of Hume, according to New York State police the incidents occurred about 10 minutes and five miles apart.

The first incident occurred just before 8 p.m. Thursday near Mills Road, nine people departed from Letchworth in a hot air balloon when state police say the pilot encountered strong winds lost control and the balloon came down in some trees. The pilot was able to lift the balloon out of the trees later landing hard in a field.

All occupants were able to stay in the basket and one person was transported to a local hospital with a leg injury.

The second incident occurred about 10 minutes later and five miles away, police say the five occupants encountered strong winds lost control and came down hard in a field.

Two people were ejected from the basket and were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The FAA was notified of the incidents and foul play is not suspected at this time.
