WILSON, N.Y. (WKBW) — First responders were called to Tuscarora Yacht Club in Wilson on Monday morning after a 40-foot yacht sank in the harbor.
No one was in the yacht at the time of the incident. Fire and HazMat teams were called in as a precaution. First responders set up a boom around the sunken vessel to prevent any possible oil or gas spill from spreading.
A pump could be seen clearing water from the yacht.
Jonathan Shultz, Director of Emergency Services for Niagara County, says a salvage company has been called in to lift the boat out of the water. Until then, it is unclear what caused the yacht to sink.
The cost of damage to the yacht is unknown.
Tuscarora Yacht Club ists on Tuscarora Bay, which empties into Lake Ontario at Wilson Pier.
