KENMORE, N.Y. (WKBW) — With record breaking heat gripping Western New York, we all need a way to keep cool.

But if you have an air conditioning unit and it breaks or needs repairs, you may have a harder time finding the parts needed to fix it.

"Some people are having a hard time getting their hands on equipment now. Very large shortage of heating and air conditioning equipment, mostly air conditioning due to COVID. A lot of factories were shut down," said Steve Domroes.

Steve Domroes owns Steve's Service Expert, it's a small family owned and operated businesses specializing in heating, air conditioning and Plumbing.

His brother and son are on site today repairing a home's air conditioning system, after they said the homeowners went without it for three weeks.

"We were able to finally get some equipment here for them and try to get them cooled down by the end of the day," said Domroes. "Luckily our supplier, which is Irr Supply, has a large amount of equipment on hand. So we're not really noticing any issues as of this point."

They installed a Samsung Mini Split unit.

"Where they've got different heads in different rooms to keep certain areas of their home cool," he said.

And with record temps melting into the history books this week, this team is putting in very long days.

"We'll start at 8 o'clock in the morning and like, my brother never pulled into his driveway 'till about midnight last night. You know, so we'll work 16, 17 hour days sometimes in the middle of this heat just trying to keep people comfortable," said Domroes.
