ERIE COUNTY (WKBW) — Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced Tuesday a blanket approval for fitness centers and gyms to reopen on August 24, 2020 under specific conditions.
All fitness centers and gyms seeking to reopen must review the New York Forward guidelines and affirm the business will follow those guidelines. The businesses will also need to submit a request form to the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) so a public health sanitarian can schedule an inspection at the facility.
You can find the inspection request form and more information on the county's website here.
"Inspections will be scheduled by ECDOH as soon as is practical," a release states. "ECDOH will issue close orders to facilities that do not demonstrate compliance with NY Forward guidance, either during their initial inspection or on future inspections."
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Monday fitness centers and gyms in NYS could reopen beginning August 24 under the following guidelines:
- 33% capacity.
- Masks worn at all times.
- Ventilation (HVAC) requirements.
- Localities must inspect gyms and determine whether they can have indoor classes.
