BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul joined 7 Eyewitness News Anchor Ashley Rowe on Thursday to discuss re-opening the economy, the plan for the rest of the school year, and the continued challenges with people seeking unemployment benefits.
Hochul said the State is continually looking at data to evaluate what kind of protocols would need to be put in place when schools re-open. Governor Cuomo is expected to provide a plan for schools by the end of the week.
Elective surgeries are also being evaluated in the State's re-opening effort. So far, Erie County has not met the threshold required for hospitals to begin elective surgeries. When asked whether she's concerned that health systems will send Erie County patients, Hochul said it is something they are constantly looking at.
As for summer events, Hochul was non-committal about any major attractions, but did say "it's going to be tough."
*Note: Lt. Governor meant to say 10 million calls in a one-week volume at the Unemployment call center, not 10,000.
