BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo has announced that Rev. Ryszard Biernat has “consented” Wednesday to “take a leave of absence” from his position for “personal reasons.”

Rev. Biernat serves as Secretary to Bishop Richard Mallone and Vice Chancellor.

The Diocese says the release of the statement was “out of respect for Fr. Biernat’s request to delay this announcement until he had the opportunity to confer with his legal counsel.”

The statement said Biernat’s leave is for an undetermined length of time.

There is reaction to this announcement from the Bishop's former secretary, Siobhan O'Connor. She turned whistle blower. and worked exclusively with I-Team chief investigator Charlie Specht as he investigated decades of abuse allegations in the diocese.

Siobhan offered the following statement in regards to Rev. Biernat's 'leave of absence'.
