BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — You and your child can read all about "Celery's Greatest Race" at this year's Bisons Family Day Open House.
The new children's book captures how everybody's favorite mascot overcame the odds and won its lone Wing, Cheese & Celery (WCC) race at Sahlen Field in 2017.
According to the Bisons, the book chronicles "Celery's adventure from a young stalk in the ground just hoping to be selected to go to a farmer’s market to that famous late summer night when it crossed the finish line ahead of its competitors for the first and only time."
Depew native Amy Myhalenko wrote the book. Bisons Family Day Open House is Saturday, March 9th at Sahlen Field from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Celery debuted as a racer in the WCC race in 2011. The vegetable didn't earn a victory in its first 449 attempts.
The 24-page book costs $15. Proceeds will benefit the Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries.
"Celery's Greatest Race" will also be available on Bisons.com.
