BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — BlueCross BlueShield will cover the cost of COVID-19 diagnostic tests as prescribed by doctors.
That was the announcement made early Wednesday afternoon.
This is for all members who meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for testing.
Additional benefits may vary based on individual plans.
BlueCross BlueShield strongly recommends members use its telehealth service, doctor on demand, to connect with a doctor when possible.
"We all have a shared responsibility to keep our community healthy, and we want our members to know that we're here for them," said Dr. Thomas Schenk, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.
"Our focus now is on slowing the spread of this illness and making sure that if a person does become seriously ill, they are able to access the care that they need in a timely way."
