Stolen vehicle leads to officer firing shot at suspects, two teens arraigned

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Two 16-year-old males have been arraigned on multiple charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle and fleeing the police, leading to a Buffalo police officer allegedly firing a shot.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says officers responded to a report of a vehicle stolen from Kenmore on Peter Street in Buffalo around 10:57 a.m. February 2. Officers found two occupants in the vehicle who allegedly refused to exit and drove off nearly striking an officer. The officer allegedly fired at shot at the suspects.

The vehicle crashed on Floss Avenue and the two teens allegedly fled. The district attorney's office says one teen was taken into custody on Floss Avenue and an illegal weapon was allegedly recovered in close proximity. The other teen was taken into custody on Wilkes Avenue.

One 16-year-old male faces the following charges:

  • Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
  • Criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree.
  • Unauthorized use of a vehicle in the third degree.
  • Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree.

The other 16-year-old male faces the following charges:

  • Criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree.
  • Unauthorized use of a vehicle in the third degree.
  • Criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.
  • Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree.

The 16-year-old facing the criminal possession of a weapon charge appeared in court Wednesday and bail was set at $50,000, $75,000 bond, or $100,000 partially secured bond.

The other 16-year-old was released and is scheduled to be back in court February 16.
